Course Descriptions

- Currently Beginning Level Only -

1. Hiragana & Katakana Class

No Textbook Required

Did you know… the Japanese language uses three kinds of characters? They are Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji, Chinese character. Hiragana and Katakana are Japanese alphabets, which may look like a drawing at first ! Upon completion of this course, you will be able to read and write a number of Japanese words using Hiragana and Katakana ! The class also introduces a couple of Japanese greeting expressions.

2. Beginning Japanese Series

Textbook: Genki I (Third Edition)

Now let’s focus on the development of basic language skills – speaking, reading, and writing ! Students will be able to read and produce Japanese sentences with Hiragana, Katakana, and a number of Kanji upon completion of the Beginning series. Kanji characters will be introduced from Lesson 3. Basic knowledge of Hiragana & Katakana is recommended.

3. Kanji Series (w/emphasis on conversational skills !)

Textbook: Basic Kanji Book Vol.1 (New Edition 2015-)

The kanji series is perfect for brushing up your Japanese skills ! This is where you try speaking, reading and writing longer sentences using Kanji. The instructor will ask you a lot of questions in Japanese during class, so you can develop your conversational skills as well !
